Heraldry is the study of armorial bearings (incorrectly called 'family crests'). This wikia is open to everyone who wants to explore the traditional way of identification, by way of armorial bearings (which include the coat of arms, the crest, and sometimes supporters).
Both individuals and organisations have used armorial bearings over the ages, and many still do. This site is all about preserving that heritage and raising awareness of the subject.
There are many books about the topic, and websites as well. F.R. Velde's Heraldica at heraldica.org is one of the most respected sites on the internet.
